
New Element Discovered by a Research Group led by a Professor of Kyushu University

On December 31, 2015, The International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) announced that element 113 was discovered by a research group led by Professor Kosuke Morita, a member of the Faculty of Science of Kyushu University and Group Director of The Research Group for Superheavy Elements at the RIKEN Nishina Center for Accelerator-Based Science.
“I am pleased that our long-term effort bore such great fruit as the discovery of a new element. I will make a special contribution to education and research at Kyushu University through the work,” Professor Morita said.”
