According to the Plate Tectonics, the Philippine Sea Plate is sliding down under Kyushu Island from the southeast direction. We can look at this in the distribution of hypocenters of earthquakes. |

These figures clearly show
the feature how the plate
is creeping under Kyushu Island.
We made a model in which we drew (painted) these hypocenters on many transparent and thick acrylic acid resin plates by spots, stacked up these plates and lighted them from the back side. We could view a surprisingly vivid feature of sliding down of the Philippine Sea Plate. (See the stereo photo below.) |
